The Rum Factory of Cardenas is located in the province of Matanzas and was founded in 1878 by Don Jose Arechabala Aldama, a young man from Gordexola, Spain that began operating a small alembic. Then called La Vizcaya, this factory occupied more than 600,000 m2 and is one of the oldest spirits, eaux-de-vie and rums distilleries of Cuba. Arechabalas industries produced the popular rum Havana Club and within a few years it became the largest employer of Cardenas.
In 1883, after the death of Don Jose, the business started to be directed by his stepson, who named the company with the same name of the person who founded and led to a fruitful development. The direction of the facility continued under family´s control for many years.
After 1959, the factory took the name of Jose Antonio Echeverria and in 1993, when the Cuba Ron Corporation SA was founded, part of its infrastructure was intended to cover the creation of the current factory.
Its integrated management systems of Quality and Safety are certified by ISO 9001: 2008 and NC 136: 2007; and maintains accreditation of its laboratories by ISO 17025: 2006.
