Cubay: a name that appears reflected in the text Antillean Lexicography by Alfredo Zayas giving name to a ranch in the town of Placetas, Villa Clara. The araucanian term in its completion AY, means city close to a river.
In 1998 the Cuban Industrial Property Office granted the requested registration and issuing Certificate to Cubay brand (design) for class 33 including drinks except beer. The registration was granted in Class 32 in 2002.
Cuba Ron Corporation SA is a business group which purpose is the production and marketing of spirits, rums and eaux-de-vie.
Cubay is among the brands that Cuba Ron Corporation SA intend to promote and develop by grouping the essential elements that make it possible, as it identifies and distinguishes a particular quality, based for rums, in their preparation to the traditional way of aging and exclusive mixes of "CUBAN RUM". It constitutes its know-how method consolidated in the technology of light rums original from Cuba and the own way to make rum, which is reflected on the expression of the tradition and rum culture of Cuba. In the factory Villa Clara this traditional way of making rum is kept, adding as well new elements applied by the work team that is composed by young and reputed specialists and masters of rum. These have been the ones who have imposed a particular way of making rum, starting to be recognized as the third school in the rum industry.
This way is achieved both products, rums and liqueurs which exhibit an intrinsic quality and appearance that make them competitive quality exportable products. These rums hold the Seal of Guarantee of Origin established by the Government of the Republic of Cuba since 1998.
For the development of the brand it has been developed a strategy of launching its promotion and marketing in the country, and in parallel, applying for registration of the brand in the industrial property offices of those countries that its convenience for commerce have been analyzed.

The development strategy of this brand includes placing it on the Internet taking into account the promotional advantages in speed and scope of this medium. To achieve this goal, rums and liqueurs Cubay in .com, .net, .biz and .cu were registered as domain names, being its holder Cuba Ron Corporation SA
Its presentation in Europe was through the Food Fair Barcelona 2000.
That year it won the Creativity Award OCPI and Technological Innovation awarded by the Cuban Industrial Property Office in the category of distinctive signs, considering the design of their labels and proper business strategy.
Cubay Añejo Rum was also awarded Gold Medal Quality in the Trade Fairs in FIHAV / 2002 and EXPOCARIBE / 2003.
In 2005 ALIMEXPO, the full line of rums including this time the liqueurs were presented, obtaining the Quality Award. As part of that event, the Cubay line was evaluated and approved through their tasting sheet by the National Association of Bartenders of Cuba, which enabled the brand to be officially registered with the International Association of Barmen, granting thus authorization for products of this brand to be used in international competitions.
Using Cubay as a distinctive sign has helped to increase the commercial value of products identified with it, which translates into economic benefits that had its beginnings in the domestic market in 1999, where, in addition to a significant increase in sales of these products, the presentation in that market of Cubay rums made it rank 2nd in sales of alcoholic beverages in the domestic market in 2002. In the next year it was placed among the top three, achieving in 2004 its presentation on the European market fulfilling its goals.
In the country, among our major customers for rums and liqueurs Cubay are: CIMEX Corporation, Caracol Stores Chain, Gran Caribe Hotel Chain, Blue Island Tourism Chain, Horizons Hotel Chain S.A, and TRD Caribe Stores Chain.
In the 1st International Rum Festival, which was held in the city of Havana, in June 2004, the " Añejo Ajerezado " was presented, later changed to "Añejo Dulce" that was once part of the line of ums of Cubay brand.
This product responded to the demand for a sweet rum in Spanish consumer market, considering that the Cubay brand has been commercially designed flexibly, able to assimilate the changing demands of consumers. This product has been replaced by Cubay Añejo Suave having a 37.5% alcohol by volume, dark amber color, fine and subtle aroma, which make it enjoyable alone or with ice. This product obtained Gold Medal for Quality in the International Fair of Havana, FIHAV 2011.
The success of Cubay brand is guaranteed by the systematic nature of the quality of its products, manufactured and bottled only in origin at the Central Rum Factory from Villa Clara. This center holds the ISO 9000 certification, and has achieved the Certification that covers implementation of the System of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) for food products.
In October 2012 the brand was awarded with the Dutch Rum Award in the seventh edition of the fair, "Whisky and Rum by the sea" at the Holiday Inn Hotel in the port city of IJmuiden, where a blind tasting was held in the categories of best White Rum, Golden Rum and Premium Rum. In the gold category Cubay Ron Añejo, and in the Premium category, Ron Cubay Reserva Especial 10 years obtained a mention respectively.
At the International Fair of Havana, FIHAV 2012 the award to design was given to the line of Cubay Rums.
In 2013, the Cubay Añejo and Cubay Reserva Especial 10 years rums were awarded double golden medal at the 8th edition of the "Whiskey and Rum by the sea" festival in the Netherlands.
At the International Fair of Havana, in 2013 the Cubay Carta Dorada Rum obtained the Gold Quality Award.
